Our Mission

The mission of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church is to walk, without judgment, with those taking different paths to God so that we may be transformed through Jesus Christ as we serve others.

Who We Are

St. Stephen's is made up of all kinds of people-young, old, skeptics, activists, healers, straights, singles, gays, folks of varied physicals abilities and ethnic backgrounds who value ambiguity and try to practice the love of God without judging our neighbors.

About

Our Values

Challenges. St. Stephen's likes them. While our faith gives us comfort, it also requires us to stretch. Our challenges are to:

Grow

We like to learn new things about ourselves, God, and the world. We are invited to risk trying new practices, asking questions, and creating opportunities to serve our neighbors. Change is a part of our faith journey.

Care

At St. Stephen's relationships are central to our experiences of God. We attempt to practice love for each other and with all those we meet. It's a challenge because it's hard and we fail some times. Our care is also for the world around us-we care for the planet, the poor, and the powerless.

Challenge

We are also challenged by Jesus. Many of us cringe by the way Jesus' name is used in our communities-it is used to justify hate, bigotry, and self-righteousness. Some of us are comfortable with belief in God, but we're not so sure about how Jesus fits in. Others of us feel the tension of living a fully human life like Jesus; we attempt to live his way of love. Our struggles may be different, but we are called to engage with Christ Jesus.
