From
the Rector:
The
Vestry and ministry staff
spent time in our meeting
last week to discuss the
shape of the position of
Director of Music for St.
Stephen's. As you
know, Phillip Kloeckner has
been serving as the interim
Director of Music, since
2008. This is because
of his needs and those of
the parish. We are now
moving to define this
position and its
compensation to make it
permanent.
One of the things that has
become apparent in this
discussion is that the
shape, content, and funding
of the music ministry of St.
Stephen's needs definition
as we move into our future.
For example, we have a
history of having volunteer
supply organists, paid vocal
section leaders,
inappropriate use of
copyright on printed music,
and lax care for our pipe
organ. We have also
had a long history of paying
for student organists and
part-time choir directors.
We have been moving to bring
our pay into line with the
American Guild of Organists
standards for our Director
of Music. Given
education and experience
levels, this is representing
a major shift in our budget.
The Vestry, ministry staff
and I are committed to
continuity in leadership and
are negotiating to make this
happen.
Music is an integral part of
our spirituality and so it
is right that it be an
important part of our
stewardship commitments.
Moving forward, I will be
asking the Worship Committee
to work on examining and
developing a plan for our
future, in conjunction with
Phillip and the musicians of
our parish.
Peace,
Lisa

Lenten
Program
begins Tonight
6:30
pm Dinner and
Discussion
Which
Self Do You Bring When
You Get Up and Go to
Church?
The folks we encounter
when we come to Church
are not necessarily in
their top form--nor are
we. We come with
our depression, joy, bad
breath, and wonder in
order to be together and
worship God. How
do we meet the variety
of humanity gathered?
Join us tonight for
dinner and conversation
at 6:30 p..m. in the
Gathering Area as we
watch some of Lars and
the Real Girl, identify
what brings us and
others together, and
share some supper.
Child care is provided.

Prayer
P
57 A Collect for
Guidance
O
heavenly Father, in whom
we live and move and
have our being: We
humbly pray thee so to
guide and govern us by
thy Holy Spirit, that in
all the cares and
occupations of our life
we may not forget thee,
but may remember that we
are ever walking in thy
sight; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen

What does $2,029,142.29
buy?
In
Idaho $8,000 was used to
renovate an elementary
school kitchen on the
Fort Hall Indian
Reservation. A
church in Kansas used
$19,701.15 to support a
program that provides
garden plots to the
community.
St. Stephen's Mission in
Taiwan received a grant
for $50,000 to purchase
a storefront so they
could provide temporary
housing and refuge for
children and adults who
experience domestic
violence. In
Uganda $20,000 was used
to improve the water and
sanitation standards of
a primary school.
$4,430 was used to buy
exhaust fans for a gym
used to feed families
and provide activities
open to the public in
Ohio.
These grants, and many
more like them, are the
visible results of the
United Thank Offering.
Each and every coin
counts. You too can be a
part of this global
outreach by becoming a
Blue Boxer. Boxes
are available and can be
picked up today.
